Tom Long
Based in Toronto, Tom Long serves both Canadian and international clients in identifying and assessing the top leadership teams for their organizations. He specializes in board of director and senior-level executive roles, and succession planning for private and public sector organizations with particular emphasis on the consumer and industrial/natural resources sectors.
Previous Experience
Tom began his career in executive search in 1990. Prior to joining Russell Reynolds Associates, Tom led a broad range of assignments for board and senior executives at a leading global executive search firm and was instrumental in the establishment and expansion of their Canadian business. His work there included consumer-driven and natural resources-based clients and senior roles in public policy-driven and nonprofit organizations. Before returning to executive search in 2003, he spent three years as a Partner with Monitor Company, the global strategy firm. Prior to his search career, Tom practiced as an associate at Burkman Twiss & McNevin. Before that, Tom was Vice President at a Canadian grocery retail chain and previously served as an Executive Assistant in the Office of the Prime Minister. He began his career as a litigation associate at Fasken & Calvin (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin).
Additional Professional Activities
As a volunteer, Tom has contributed to the political process in Canada, including chairing successful campaigns at the provincial level. He also co-chaired the 2000 founding convention for a new national conservative party and ran for the party leadership. Tom served for several years as a trustee of the largest Canadian teaching hospital, University Health Network (UHN) and its predecessors. He has served on the Board of Directors for the SickKids Foundation since 2003. He joined the Board of Trustees of the Hospital for Sick Children in 2011.
Education
Tom received his LL.B from the University of Western Ontario Law School and was called to the Ontario bar in 1984.
