Insurance Executive Moves | Q2 2023

EMEA

Allianz

  • Continuing the announcement of leadership appointments under the new Allianz Commercial structure, Agustín de la Cuerda will assume the post as Managing Director for Iberia.
  • Sean McGrath will be retiring from his role as CEO of Allianz Ireland. He is succeeded by Phillip Gronemeyer, who previously held the position of CEO of Allianz Russia.
  • Alexander Grenz is appointed to Country Head, President and CEO of Allianz Life Indonesia. He previously held roles within Allianz PNB Life. Joseph Gross will succeed.
  • Cindy Cui is appointed as the CEO and General Manager of Allianz China Life Insurance. Cindy is succeeding Xu Chunjun, who is moving to become Senior Advisor for Allianz Asia Pacific.

AON

  • Sherif Zakhary is appointed to CEO for AON's Strategy and Technology Group within Reinsurance Solutions. Zakhary was previously co-head of Aon’s strategy consulting team for insurers and has held senior positions at Guy Carpenter, Zurich and MetLife.
  • Marc Fakkel joins AON as Chief Technology Officer of its Strategy and Technology Group within Reinsurance Solutions, reporting to Sherif Zakhary. He joins from Deloitte, where he served as Actuarial Modelling Centre Partner.

Aviva

  • Aviva has appointed James Hillman as CRO, subject to regulatory approval. He is currently CFO of Scottish Widows. He succeeds Andrea Montague, who has moved to Brooks Macdonald in the same position.

AXA

  • Anu Venkataraman is appointed Group Chief Strategy Officer in addition to her current role of Group Head of Investor Relations. She succeeds Georges Desvaux, who has decided to retire at the end of 2023.
  • Nancy Bewlay, who was previously CEO of AXA XL Reinsurance, has been appointed Group CUO for AXA.
  • Renaud Guidée, previously Group CRO succeeds Nancy Bewlay in her role as CEO AXA XL Reinsurance.
  • Françoise Gilles will succeed Renaud Guidée as Group CRO. He was previously Chief Strategic Development Officer for AXA Asia.
  • Guillaume Borie is promoted to CEO of AXA France. He succeeds Patrick Cohen, who is appointed CEO European Markets and Health.
  • Hassan El-Shabrawishi, CEO of AXA Africa is appointed CEO International Markets, and will oversee AXA’s operations in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, India and South-East Asia.
  • Trevor Gandy joins AXAL XL as Global Head of Diversity. He joins from Markel, where he was Managing Director for Talent, Diversity and Inclusion.

Helvetia

  • Fabian Rupprecht has been announced as the new Group CEO of Helvetia, joining in October 2023, leaving his role at NN Group, where he was CEO of International Insurance.

Hiscox

  • Fabrice Brossart is appointed Group's CRO, replacing Hanna Kam who has decided to step down after 10 years with the Group. Fabrice joins from AIG, where he was CRO, International General Insurance.
  • Craig Martindale is promoted to Chief Actuary, having been Group Head of Capital Management since 2015.
  • Steve Parry joins Hiscox as Group Claims Director from AIG, where he was Global Head of Technical Claims.

Prudential

  • Ben Bulmer is appointed Group CFO, a promotion from his role of CFO of the insurance and asset management divisions. He succeeds James Turner.
  • Catherine Chia joins Prudential as Group Chief Human Resources Officer, following the retirement of incumbent Jolene Chen.

Society of Lloyd’s

  • Rachel Turk joins Society of Lloyd's as CUO. She joins from Beazley, where she was Group Head of Strategy and Executive Committee member.

Swiss Re

  • Jacques de Vaucleroy, previously Vice Chairman and lead independent director of the board, becomes interim Chairman of Swiss Re as incumbent chair Sergio Ermotti steps down to focus on his new role as CEO of UBS Group. The search for his successor is underway.
  • Julien Descombes has been appointed CUO Life & Health Reinsurance from his role of Head of Life & Health Swiss Re Institute and CUO at the newly created iptiQ Division in January 2021. 
  • Karen Tan is named CRO for Life & Health Reinsurance, a promotion from her prior position of Head of Life and Health Products, Asia.
  • Victor Kuk assumes the position CEO Reinsurance Asia and Regional President Asia, succeeding Paul Murray who, as reported in Q1, was made CEO L&H Reinsurance.

Willis Towers Watson

  • Diya Luke is appointed to Global Head of Investments, from her current position as Growth Acceleration Leader for the WTW's Health, Wealth & Career business. She succeeds Chris Ford, who retired in June 2023.

 

Americas

Aspen

  • John Welch joins Aspen as CUO, Reinsurance. He was most recently Chief Executive, Domestic Markets at AXA XL.

AXIS

  • Rebecca O'Kill joins AXIS as Chief Data and Analytics Officer. She was previously Interim Chief Data Officer at Beazley, after being Head of Actuarial Analytics.
  • Lori Bailey is appointed as Head of Growth for Global Cyber and Technology for AXIS. She joins from cyber-focused MGA Corvus where she held the role of Chief Insurance Officer.

Canopius Group

  • Sam Harrison joins Canopius Group as Group CUO from QBE where he has held the same position.

CNA

  • Daniel Franzetti is promoted to the newly created position of Chief Administrative Officer for CNA Insurance. Franzetti joined CNA as Global Head of Claims in April 2020 after three decades of broad expertise in global claims in the P&C industry.

Erie Insurance Group

  • Julie Pelkowski is announced as CFO, succeeding Greg Gutting who is retiring.

Everest Re

  • Ricardo Anzaldua joins Everest Re from Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation Freddie Mac, as EVP and Group General Counsel. He succeeds interim General Counsel, Brent Hoffman, who will continue to serve as SVP, Head of Claims and COO for Everest Re.

Great West Life Co

  • Garry MacNicholas has announced his intention to retire from his role of CFO in Q2 2024. Jon Nielsen will join in September 2023 as CFO designate, from FWD where he also served as CFO.

Hanover Insurance Group

  • Pamela Rushing leaves her role of President, Speciality Property and Casualty at Hanover Insurance Group to join Church Mutual Insurance as CUO and President of Subsidiaries.

Jackson National Life Insurance

  • Christopher Raub is promoted to CRO, from Head of Insurance Assets at subsidiary PPM America. He succeeds Bradley Harris.

Lincoln

  • Andrew Rallis joins the firm as CRO. He most recently served as EVP, Global Chief Actuary at MetLife.
  • Sean Woodroffe is named as Chief People, Culture and Communications Officer. He comes to Lincoln from TIAA, where he served as Chief People Officer since 2018. He succeeds outgoing Chief People Officer, Jen Warne.

Manulife

  • Halina von dem Hagen is promoted to Global CRO, from her previous role of EVP, Treasury and Capital Management. She succeeds Rahim Badrudin Hassanali Hirji, who becomes Chief Auditor.
  • Phil Witherington is appointed CEO and President of Manulife Asia. Witherington previously served as the CFO. Colin Simpson, previously CFO John Hancock succeeds Witherington as CFO for Manulife.

Partner Re

  • Sylvain Jarrier is appointed to Group CUO, a promotion from Head of Worldwide Pricing & Analytics. He succeeds Scott Altstadt, who is pursuing other opportunities.

Prudential Financial

  • Nandini Mongia is appointed President of Prudential Open-Architecture Solutions. She previously held the role as SVP and Treasurer. Mark Finkelstein, SVP, Finance, will expand his responsibilities and assume Mongia's prior role to oversee Prudential's Treasury department.

Truist

  • Tom Hackett is announced as CEO of Truist Securities. He currently serves as President and COO of Truist Securities. He is succeeding John Gregg who is retiring.

Voya Financial

  • Andrew Frend is appointed CEO of Voya's Benefitfocus, a benefits management solution, from his role of SVP and Head of Workplace Strategy and Solution at Voya Financial. He succeeds Matt Levin, who is pursuing other opportunities.  
     

Asia Pacific

AIA

  • Dr. Kelvin Loh is appointed Group Chief Healthcare Officer. He Joins AIA from IHH Healthcare Berhad, a leading global integrated healthcare provider, where he was Managing Director and CEO.

Dai-ichi Life Holding

  • Stephen Barnham joins Dai-ichi as Global Chief Digital and Information Officer. He previously Served as Global Head of Technology for Prudential PLC.
  • Hidehiko Sogano is named Chief Sustainability Officer.

Japan Post Insurance

  • Kunio Tanigaki is appointed to CEO, succeeding Tetsuya Senda.

QBE

  • Serene Davis joins QBE as Global Head of Cyber from Beazley, where she held the position of Regional Manager, West Region, US Cyber and Tech.

Sompo

  • Risa Ryan joins Sompo International as CUO. She previously worked for Swiss Re, as Global Head of Standard Insurance Products Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.
  • Margaret Hyland is promoted to President, North America Reinsurance, having previously served as EVP, Head of North American Professional Liability Reinsurance.

Tokio Marine

  • Kiyoshi Wada has stepped down from the role of Group COO and Group Chief Sustainability Officer.
