Private Banking Executive Moves | Q3 2024

Switzerland

Bank Cler

  • At the extraordinary general meeting of Bank Cler on July 15th Silvio Hutterli was elected as a new Member of the Board of Directors. He will also chair the Audit Committee and succeeds Cornelia Gehrig, who stepped down from the Board of Directors at the end of June 2024 to focus on international industrial mandates.
  • Maya Salzmann and Christian Wunderlin will not stand for re-election to the Board of Directors at the next ordinary general meeting next year. Salzmann has been a Member of the Board since June 2019, and Wunderlin since April 2015.

Banque Internationale à Luxembourg

  • The bank has appointed Lionel Pilloud as the new Head of its Geneva branch, effective since September this year. For nearly six years, he held various leadership roles at Credit Suisse in Romandy and Ticino. 

Basler Kantonalbank

  • The bank's Board of Directors has appointed Regula Berger, currently the Deputy CEO and Head of Commercial Clients, as the new CEO and Chair of the BKB Group Executive Board, effective as of March 1st, 2025. She will succeed Basil Heeb who has decided to step down as Group CEO of BKB at the end of February 2025 after six years in the role.

Blackrock

  • Dirk Klee will be the new Country Head for Switzerland at Blackrock. He assumes his new role in October, succeeding Mirjam Staub-Bisang.
  • Mirjam Staub-Bisang will transition to the role of Senior Advisor and Chair of Blackrock Switzerland.

Cinerius Group

  • The Board of Directors of the Cinerius Group has named Joël Schüepp as its new CEO. Schüepp will take up his position on November 1st. He most recently served as Managing Director at both Credit Suisse and UBS and was previously a Partner at the Boston Consulting Group.

Deutsche Bank

  • Deutsche Bank has appointed Raffael Gasser as Head of Wealth Management & Private Banking in Germany. He is moving from UBS in Zurich to Deutsche Bank, where he previously led the Northern European business for wealthy private clients. Gasser succeeds Lars Stoy, who has been responsible for Private Banking and Wealth Management since last year.

Edmond de Rothschild

  • Hervé Ordioni, who previously headed the International Private Banking division, is no longer with the company. Until a successor is appointed, Cynthia Tobiano, Deputy CEO, will temporarily lead the division.

Graubündner Kantonalbank

  • President Peter Fanconi has announced that he will step down at the next participation assembly on March 22nd 2025 - one year before the end of his term of office. 

Julius Baer

  • Stefan Bollinger, partner at Goldman Sachs, will become the new CEO of Julius Baer, starting in early 2025. Bollinger currently serves as Co-Head of Private Wealth Management EMEA at Goldman Sachs in London. He is also a member of the European Management Committee and the Global Wealth Operating Group. He succeeds Philipp Rickenbacher, who stepped down last February after incurring significant losses for the bank and in the interim, Julius Bär executive Nic Dreckmann took over the leadership.
  • Patrick Prinz has been announced as the new Head of the Swiss Market at Julius Baer and started the new position on August 1st. Previously, this area was overseen on an interim basis by Sonia Gössi, Head of Switzerland & Europe at Julius Baer. Until the end of this year, Prinz will continue to manage the Germany & Austria market alongside his new role as Head of the Swiss Market.
  • Julius Baer appointed Claudia Petersen as a new Head of Private Markets. Petersen was previously Head of Business Development for Private Assets at Baloise Asset Management in Basel for over two years until December last year.
  • Reto Calonder will take over as Head of the St. Gallen branch and the Eastern Switzerland region at Julius Baer as of December 1st, 2024. He will succeed Michael Eicher, who has decided to pursue a new challenge outside the bank. Until Calonder takes up his position, the St. Gallen branch will be managed on an interim basis by Claude Lüthi, Head of Aargau / Solothurn and Foundations at Julius Baer.

Leonteq

  • Lukas Ruflin has decided to step down as Leonteq CEO after a replacement has been appointed, according to a statement announcing the first-half financial results. Leonteq’s Board of Directors proposed to elect Ruflin as a new Board Member at the next gathering of shareholders during the annual general meeting in 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

Lombard Odier

  • The private bank has announced a significant change in its partnership group. Alexandre Zeller will retire and step down as Managing Partner of Lombard Odier at the end of 2024, concluding his tenure that began in 2019. His successor, Xavier Bonna, who has been with Lombard Odier since 2016, will take over as the new Managing Partner at the start of the new year.

Neue Bank

  • The new CEO at Neue Bank will be Roman Pfranger. He will assume his duties at the end of January after a temporary 15-month leadership gap following the departure of Marcel Lüchinger in August 2023. 

Postfinance

  • Beat Rütsche was elected as a new Member of the Board of Directors of Postfinance at an extraordinary general meeting and took up office on October 1st. He will chair the Audit & Compliance Committee. By taking on this mandate, Rütsche is relinquishing his role as Partner Audit Financial Services at PwC Switzerland. Rütsche succeeds Michaela Troyanov, who stepped down at the end of September after twelve years on the Board of Directors due to the statutory term limits.
  • Giulia Fitzpatrick has resigned from the Board of Directors of Postfinance with immediate effect. According to a statement, this decision was made for personal reasons. She joined the Board of Directors of Postfinance on November 1st, 2018, and chaired the Information Technology & Digitalization Committee.

TWINT

  • Daniel Bernasconi was appointed as new Chief Information Officer at Twint and started his position in August. He succeeds Simon Wehrli, who left the company after over six years. Bernasconi previously served as Chief Technology Officer at Finnova.

Urner Kantonalbank

  • Christoph Bugnon announced that after 15 years on the Executive Board of Urner Kantonalbank, including nine years as CEO, he will be handing over the operational management of the bank in autumn 2025.

VP Bank

  • Dirk Klee, who was appointed as the new Country Head for Switzerland at Blackrock, has served as a Board Member at VP Bank before. He left the Board at the end of September. Ursula Lang temporarily assumes Klee's responsibilities on the Audit Committee and the Strategy & Digitalization Committee.

 

EMEA

HSBC

  • HSBC's Chief Operating Officer John Hinshaw and Head of Wealth Management Nuno Matos are stepping down as part of a series of top-level changes by the new CEO Georges Elhedery who took his role on September 2nd, succeeding Noel Quinn. 
  • Barry O'Byrne, who currently leads HSBC's large commercial banking unit, will take over the Wealth and Personal Banking unit.
  • Other top level changes by Elhedery include Aileen Taylor taking over as Chief Human Re-sources and Governance Officer from Elaine Arden, who is also stepping down.
  • Former Citigroup staffer Stuart Riley has been handed the expanded role of Group Chief Information Officer, while Suzy White, HSBC's Global Banking and Markets COO, takes on the Group Chief Operating Officer role on an interim basis.

FNZ Bank

  • FNZ founder Adrian Durham has stepped down as Group CEO, with former JP Morgan executive Blythe Masters appointed to take over the role. Masters is a Founding Partner of Motive Partners, one of FNZ’s Private Equity backers. Durham will become a Non-Executive Founding Director and Senior Advisor and continue to sit on the FNZ board. He also remains a significant shareholder in the platform technology company.
