Alvin partners closely with chairs and directors to enhance board performance. Having worked on a variety of assignments internationally across the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia Pacific, he brings a deep understanding of the governance and leadership challenges boards face today from a global perspective.
Leveraging that knowledge and expertise, much of Alvin’s work revolves around board effectiveness and director development. His interest in the subject matter has seen him actively contribute to the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), where he serves as part of its Advocacy and Research Committee. Alvin was also one of the principal authors behind SID’s guidebook on corporate governance for boards.
From time to time, Alvin also conducts director training programs as well as guest lectures on board effectiveness and director dynamics at the business schools such as the Singapore Management University and INSEAD. He has also helped to conduct studies on board practices across various countries, including Malaysia and Singapore.
Alvin has spent time in both commercial and consulting roles, his last role being the Chief Strategy Officer of a Singapore-listed construction firm. Prior to that he was a consultant with PwC, where he specialized in enterprise risk and supported board-level investigations. In addition, he was part of the firm’s entrepreneurial and private business practice where he advised on family governance.
"The value a board is determined not just by its composition, but also by the quality of the discourse its directors bring to the table."
